Metal Bronzed upcycled Fan ⋆ Avos Design

Why get rid of that old fan when you can ‘recycle’, ‘upcycle’ and beautify your existing one! Not only is it good for the earth to upcycle, but you will get a functional piece of decor that matches your existing color scheme.
I took an old ‘bigbox store’ generic white box fan & gave it a breath of fresh life.
Essentially you can use this technique on any item of decor that doubles as a functional item.

Step (1) : Pick your color :mrgreen:. (Hint of advice : use a really high end smart phone & take a pic of your current color scheme. ie furniture, wall color, other items of decor etc… 👉 Reason for this is to have a high res pic you can reference in the store or while looking online.
For the color –> A good rule of thumb is to go with similar ‘color tones’, as it looks better and gives the item a good balance in the overall look of your room.

If you are unsure, stick with a rich earth tone.
I chose a can of ‘Rustoleum American Accents Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze’.

Step (2) : Prep work area & Item. Cover any parts you don’t want painted. (I used blue painters tape – does not leave sticky residue & easy 2 work with).
For work area : can use an old sheet/blanket. I recommend using an area outdoors (for both ventilation & space).
Or alternatively you can just use cardboard boxes layed out outside, as I did.

Step (3) : Paint the item/fan! Ensure to shake spraypaint can well. Good rule of thumb is 2min. I just count mentally to 200, hasn’t failed me yet. 🙂 Reshake can frequently (every 2min or so).
Use ‘smooth’ ‘even’ ‘long strokes’, hold can about 10 inches away from object.

Step (4) : Let item dry.
Sit back & sip on some icetea. Be patient. If you touch it before it dries you will smudge or mess up the coat of paint, & you’ll just end up having to repaint the item.

Step (5) : Admire your new functional piece of decor that now matches your existing color scheme! Congratulations you now have an upcycled boxfan with a trendy modern look that of which upscales the room its in.
